ROCK CLIMBING Updated 3-12-10

  • Ever tried to explain what climbing is to someone else? Ever needed it explained to you? That's why I put together this photo-illustrated, entertaining and informative (and how!), slide show. Feel free to send the link to friends; and climbing gyms feel free to use it as a patron orientation: Start the Rock Climbing Slide Show Now

Psalms 18:29: With His help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall

(upper left) I'm very psyched to climb at this place when it opens in Atlanta in May. Talk about tall, steep climbing heaven (with a 'little "h"' :-) Yes I build climbing walls too, but I don't feel any sense of competitive envy with these folx...my company is a Mom & Pop outfit...apples and oranges compared with the scale that these guys are on. All I can say is "looks great guys! Brav-O"

Rock climber falls, breaks arm
The Salt Lake Tribune
Wed, 02 May 2007 7:49 AM PDT
Posted: 8:34 AM- CEDAR CITY -- A hiker was injured last night when he fell while rock climbing in Garfield County. Sheriff's deputies say a rock broke loose while the man was rappelling, causing the fall.

This piece is very indicative of the misperceptions we get as climbers. Was this hapless dude a hiker, a climber, or a rappeler? Three very different things. But anybody who falls off a rock while trying to take a high altitude drunken wiz gets counted in the "climber" casualty statistics...simply because he was near a rock when the mood struck him. That's why I wrote these pages...to dispel a few myths
