Cliff Dweller Climbing Instruction

- Inside and Out Updated 1-10-08

Inside: At your location

Note: For all classes listed here, we will make the posters or flyers for you. All you have to do is put them out and watch your participation increase.

Level I. Professional Climbing Demo and Info Clinic: $400 plus travel expenses

Intent: To generate interest in climbing and provide a comprehensive introductory clinic. It will motivate new and existing patrons alike. We'll come to your gym and do a professional climbing demo; then we'll spend a couple of hours explaining the things that people always wonder about. We bring lead gear for handling, and use multimedia presentations to illustrate what we are talking about. Every patron always stays way after for the Q&A session that invariably follows.

Level II. Four-Part "Better Climbing" Series

Cost: All four classes for $99.00 per person. No travel expenses if you pre-register ten or more participants):

A four part series that takes your members to the next level and beyond. This series is about "How to Train" so the benefits last and grow long after Marc has packed up his toys and gone home.

This series has been an enormous success everywhere we've done it, and never fails to add energy, motivation, and increased patronage to the host facility. Because it is taught in a group format, it packs a lot of information into an easy-to-afford package that will increase your membership and motivate your current patrons. If you want to charge up to an additional 30% for the house, feel free, but we think you'll find that the patronage boost will be worth offering it at your facility for our $99 fee.

As your members who don't sign up for the first series see and hear these classes conducted, they will become curious enough themselves to take the next round, and so on, and so on. It can easily become a monthly program that will add a lot to your curriculum.

  • Part One: The Three Essential Techniques: The three techniques that all advanced climbers use. This class will make participants better climbers overnight, and they will keep improving as they perfect these three essentials.
  • Part Two: Climbing Physiology and Training: This is Marc's favorite class to teach. He has an extensive background in the fitness industry and personal training that is rare among climbing instructors. He bridges the gap between muscle physiology and climbing. Specifically, he'll talk about how muscles work within the three aspects of Power, Endurance, and Stamina. Once your patrons understand how to optimize their training for each, they will improve FAR more rapidly. And that means they will be psyched to come see you more and work on your harder routes. We also address Bouldering, in great detail.
  • Part Three: Strategy: In this class, your patrons will learn how to dissect a route or Boulder problem and develop effective strategies for Onsighting and Project-ing. Plus, we'll briefly introduce them to competition climbing.
  • Part Four: Intermediate Technique: By now your patrons have been practicing the three essential techniques, and they are ready for some intermediate techniques.

Once your patrons have taken all four classes, your facility will be home to many new routes that they will visit more often to "project" - now that they know how.
