The Great Experiment: Believe it or not, I am not "political." Despite pop culture, shallow caricatures, to be a Conservative means to be "conservative" about how much government you want running your life. It means "small government" and "Freedom." By contrast, to be "Liberal" means to want a 'liberal' dose of government solutions to our problems. But that of course grows government power (like we are seeing now) and is a threat to our freedoms. Thus, "Conservatism" is far more 'liberating' than "Liberalism" and is a good example of how important it is to look deeper than 'bumper sticker level' analysis of key concepts that affect your family's life. I know you're intelligent enough to understand that, but I am writing this because the media in this country do not put this information out there for you to analyze. They don't want you to. Why?
The old networks and CNN in this country will tell you proudly that their own in house polling data puts them at 95% left leaning, liberal democrats. As a direct result of that, when their peeps are in power in government, the "old media" effectively become a state-controlled information machine. You saw this without any doubt during the 2008 Presidential Beauty Contest. So why anyone would limit themselves to the "old media" is a mystery to me. To do so gives you a VERY slanted perspective. There are alternatives. The "new" media includes blogs like mine, talk radio (gasp! I know, many of you just thought that you are too 'open-minded' to listen to those people....ironic. Yet I'll bet you have your perceptions of them without ever having listened for yourself), the internet, etc. I realize that some of those places are unedited and unregulated, and that is a prevalent criticism that is valid enough that you should take the info there with a grain of salt ... as you should anyone - especially professionally edited info; and more especially when the bulk of professional editors have an agenda.
