"Get Out!"
A Top Rope outdoor adventure designed to help clients be self-sufficient in the outdoor climbing environment. Covers the proper use of webbing and other climbing gear used to construct Top Rope anchors; bouldering; knots (plus the Munter Hitch); descending; weather considerations; environmental ethics; emergency response; and more. Prerequisites: Satisfactory belay skills. This class is also used for the Scouting Merit Badge Part II) : (Photo): A roped party Wayne and I passed while free soloing 10,911 ft high (and 1,500 feet tall) Cathedral Peak in the Yosemite High Country. One of the best days of my life. New Class! Adventure Racing: If you have ever done an adventure race, you know how backed up things can get at the climbing evolutions. Cliff Dweller has teamed up with the Atlanta Trail Blazers adventure racing club to develop a training program that will give racers the skills they need to keep things moving quickly and safely. This two part class covers different rope ascension methods; knots; belay training; and rappelling. At the end, we provide you with a "training document" that is recognized by race organizers. (Two, four-hour classes). Level Two: Introduction to Traditional Multi Pitch Climbing (2 person maximum): For when you’re ready to go really high! While seconding, clients learn climbing anchor placement; belay station management and efficient transitions; more knots; ascending; gear hauling; top belays; and emergency response. Prerequisites: Our Orientation to Outdoor Climbing class (or demonstrated equivalent proficiency), and the ability to onsight three top roped 5.9’s in one day. New Class! Sport Climbing (3 person maximum): Do you want to send harder? Take this class and learn the fine points of on sight and redpoint strategy at the crag where your projects live. We’ll evaluate your climbing style and your ascent history relative to your goals; critique your approach to projects, your sequences, and your leader falls; and offer tips for improvement. We’ll help you develop a plan of difficulty progression specific to the day’s goal(s). We’ll cover pre climb rituals; route reading; sequencing; arousal, mental aspects; "game face," and much more. A really fun day! Prerequisites: The demonstrated ability to lead sport climbs without back-clipping or otherwise making me nervous for you. Level Three: Introduction to Traditional Lead Climbing (2 person maximum):
While
enjoying the safety of a top rope, clients practice lead anchor placement; aid
climbing; emergency response; leader rescue knots; mental preparation; and more.
Prerequisites: Our Introduction to Multi Pitch Climbing Class or demonstrated
proficiency, and ability to onsight five top roped 5.9’s in one day.
