On the Other Hand...

An astounding number of crimes every year are PREVENTED by guns. See the links below for the actual stats. You don't hear about this because the media fosters an anti-gun agenda

Anti gun laws ONLY disarm law-abiding citizens; the law-breakers will - OF COURSE - ignore these laws as they prey on the now unarmed citizens. Again, the stats in the links below bear this out in numbers.

After Columbine, there was the typical cry for MORE restrictive gun laws. But the perpetrators had broken at least twenty-two existing gun laws to commit their crimes. So more laws are clearly not the answer. In fact, Columbine could have been quelled if MORE guns - in the hands of the teachers - had been in the school.

Concealed weapons permits are granted after a high threshold of background check - much higher than for standard handgun ownership. Statistically, there has never been a gun crime committed by someone with a concealed permit. Teachers and airline pilots with such permits could be trusted with such weapons - of course far better than the criminally-minded.

Municipalities that enact concealed weapons permits see immediate and dramatic drops in crime rates. The logic is self-evident. Perps do not prey on the armed, and they do not break in where there is likely to be a weapon inside.

Scenario: a perp breaks into your home at 2am, and is on his way down your hallway towards your wife and kids. If he has a gun and you do not, he will do ANYTHING he wants. This is true even if the man of the house is a three hundred pound Bruce Lee bodybuilder.

By contrast, guns make even an eighty year old grandmother capable of defending herself.

Cities, states, and countries that have the highest gun ownership rates have the lowest crime statistics. Example: when Kennesaw, GA - inspired by Switzerland - enacted the USA's first law making it mandatory for homeowners to keep a gun in the house, the home invasion rate there dropped 27% in the first year of the law. Switzerland, by the way, has had a negligible home invasion rate for decades.

So far, there has never been a case where a gun has walked down a hallway shooting people. People shoot people. Logically, if you outlaw the means, you will also have to go after kitchen knives, baseball bats, shovels, axes, etc too.

The number of crimes committed WITH guns (noticed I didn't say BY them) is way different from what you would think. See below for specifics and details...

People who are anti-gun are essentially anti self-defense. Why would anyone want to take away a family's ability (and right) to defend itself against aggression?
