Health Care Reform Updated 3-20-07 Let's Talk About Universal Health Care; a.k.a. Socialized Medicine "Do you really want government employees running your family health care" I mean, have you been to the DMV lately?
Private Enterprise and Competition Make for Higher Quality America has the highest quality doctors in the world. Have you not noticed somehow that all the countries that have socialized medicine have six month waiting lines for simple procedures performed by sub par practitioners? Why the Socialists Want to Run Your Health Care Hillary and her ilk want socialized medicine so they can control one more aspect of your life. So they can make you more dependant on government. So they can use it as a bargaining chip to buy your support at election time. Cynical? Yes. We are talking about politicians here! If you think about it, there's no other explanation for a politician's support of it. It is not possible that they are inspired by the brilliance of other countries that have it - because, again, every country that has universal health care is a sorry example of beauracratic inefficiency. Yet, in the 2008 election cycle, expect to hear a lot more about this topic. And there is likely to be more support in the populace this time than there was when it was first proposed and defeated in the early nineties. Why, because costs have skyrocketed and health care is hard to afford. Reform Does Need to Happen Yes, we need Health Care reform. But the reform that needs to happen is in the insurance industry, and amongst ourselves with regard to our overuse of the system - not in Congress. Let's not jump into the arms of the Welfare State to solve our problems. That temptation has brought down every free society in history...interestingly enough, always after about two hundred years of existence. Insurance is supposed to be a "rainy day" last resort when the cost of a medical bill is too high to pay out of pocket. Take car insurance as an example: You don't make an insurance claim to get your oil changed - or even to repair a $1,000 fender. You pay for that out of pocket. Yet when we get the sniffles, we go to the doctor and make an insurance claim because "it only costs $10 in co-pay, so why not go?" The fact that people do this is what has driven up the cost of health care. Not some evil big drug company conspiracy. Not fat cat doctors. Our own overuse of the system has driven up the costs and forced too many doctors to quit the business. Of course, that makes the lines in the offices that remain, longer...driving up the demand and the costs that much more. Insurance Companies Are Pushing Doctors Around Our overuse of the insurance companies has made them too powerful. If we were not insisting that they foot the bill, they would not have so much say in what you do. But, as long as they are paying, they will have to do their best to get into the regulation of the industry. After all, it's their money, and we keep asking for it. Health Care is Not a Right We only have three rights in our Constitution. Health Care is something that you provide for yourself. But yes, we can do it better. We need Insurance reform - not another expensive government hand out program whose only real goal is to buy votes from the largest number of people possible.
