IMMIGRATION Written Feb 2007; Updated 3-20-07 Every time someone writes or speaks about Immigration Policy, they always spend a lot of preamble time telling their audience how much they LOVE other cultures and don't have any "mean-spirited intent" towards immigrants or minorities. TO DISAGREE IS NOT TO "HATE" People do this because our politically-correct culture tells folks that to take issue with something or someone is "HATE SPEECH," so people try really hard when they talk about such things not to be mistaken for a "meanie." I am not going to waste time trying to convince you that I "have plenty of ethnic friends" or anything like that. For one thing, it's lame to try and do that; and, more importantly, my friends are not there to be used as trophies. I will tell you flat out that I take issue with ILLEGAL immigration. We do have a system in place for LEGAL immigration, after all, and the reality is that... THE ENTIRE WORLD PHYSICALLY CANNOT LIVE HERE That's the bottom line. To say so does not mean that I want to mean-spiritedly doom everyone else to second and third world status. But - in addition to the seemingly self-evident fact in my heading above - if we could and did let everyone in the world live here, then what responsibility would the other countries of the world have to clean up their own act? That is what needs to happen. Their leaders have the same opportunity to institute a free market as did our Founders. They would all be better off if they would stop spending their energies complaining about our prosperity, and being envious of it, and feeling entitled to a piece of it; and instead spend their energies learning from it. TO LIVE HERE YOU MUST PAY YOUR MEMBERSHIP DUES LIKE THE REST OF US If you make a great life for your family, you are not responsible for making sure that the rest of the block lives like you and your family do. Those households have leaders too. But many in our society have been "guilted" via PC ramblings into seeing the world as if that model is the way to look at things. We can send aid and charity, and we do that to a vastly greater extent than all the other countries of the world combined. But at the end of the day, we do not owe them this or a free pass to the life we have built here. They, the United Nations, and the rest of the world, need to realize this. Again, if they want to come here legally, they can do that and invest in the system by paying the same taxes we do. The taxes that go to the schools, hospitals, social security and other things they use. If they are unwilling to do this, then they are not paying their membership dues, and are a drain on the system that is just not sustainable. Their Work Is Vital to Our Economy It is true that illegal aliens do work that contributes to our economy. But at what cost? We do pay for their presence at some point when they drain our school, health care, and social service systems. Many of those systems are in crisis because of illegal aliens who are not paying taxes to support what they use. My fiancé is a teacher. She is not permitted by school policy to inquire about the legal status of her students. That's how much of a blind eye our society wants to turn to the problem. It's politically-correct nonsense, and we need to do a 180 on that mentality, back to common sense solutions. As for whether or not Americans will do the work that illegal aliens are willing to do: who knows? We haven't tried in quite some time to find out. IDENTITY CRISIS Lastly, we need immigrants to be legal so that we can know who they are. We need to know their criminal background if they have one. We need to be able to come up with a name if their fingerprints end up on a crime scene, etc. One fourth of all criminals in our prison system are illegal immigrants, after all, so I am not just being alarmist here. AGAIN, THERE IS A LEGAL SYSTEM IN PLACE FOR PEOPLE TO USE WHO WISH TO RESPECT OUR LAWS AND COME HERE. IF THAT'S YOU, THEN BY ALL MEANS COME ON! AND ADD TO OUR CULTURE. BUT IF YOU START OUT AMONG US BY SHOWING DISRESPECT FOR OUR LAWS, YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS HERE
