My website would now be incomplete without her. I'm psyched by her addition to the ticket, and she has the conservatives massively energized and buzzing. Her acceptance speech was a smash hit that debuted her to the public-at-large as an articulate, intelligent, happy, and confident choice that makes her a model politician and modern woman. I think John McCain showed a lot of wisdom by adding her. Not at all because of her undeniable pop culture, demographic, "gender" appeal, but because she makes the republican ticket a true "two-fer" as the Clinton's misguidedly always called themselves (Hillary was not elected, after all, and had no qualifications of her own). Gov. Palin, as the GOP #2, is far more qualified as a #1 presidential candidate than the democratic opposition's #1 (Barrack Hussein Obama) is, or Hillary ever was. How so? First of all, she comes from the executive branch of government...not the legislative. Thus, she understands true responsibility in a way that Obama cannot. Our country does not typically elect former legislators for this reason. This is because the executive branch has a "buck-stops-here" responsibility that legislators (members of Congress) can sidestep, as Obama has by voting "present" on 130 different votes where his leadership "yea or nay" was requested but not required. The difference between an executive presidential candidate and a "former legislator" candidate could be compared to your looking for a new CEO for Microsoft. Would you want a CEO from a smaller but similar and successful company; or a person who had served on some committees at the same? The last Congressman we did elect was JFK. I realize the same problem exists for McCain, as he too is a senator, and I acknowledge that. His lack of executive background bothers me too, but at least he can point to a long and substantive career as a senator - and legislation he enacted that's passed - in a way that Obama cannot. Obama has not achieved one single thing (passing legislation) as an Illinois state legislator or a as a US senator. But this entry is not about McCain or Obama. You can read my thoughts on McCain and on Obama at McCain and my Obama page, respectively. Sarah Palin is a ray of hope because she seems to understand that the people are not there to serve her career, rather she is there to serve the people. I am a big believer that government should be small, and when she took office in Alaska, she trimmed a lot of fat off of government spending...even putting the Governor's private jet on EBay! Bravo! She is also an unapologetic conservative, who has the strength - as Reagan did - to say so. Further, she does not even try to conform to the liberal, media enhanced image of a woman of power. She is not a politically correct caricature, as others are. By that I mean that she does not feel co-opted into the agenda of The Left or of the women's libbers. She hunts, is a lifetime member of the NRA, is pro life, and a fiscal conservative who doesn't mind telling the people that government is not there to take care of them, as the democrats have made a business of doing, in a weak and un-American attempt to buy votes with entitlements. But this is the really great thing: She has shown the media and the women's-libbers what a woman of power and potential really looks like. Of course, though, she - like Margaret Thatcher before her - is not credited with this among the very people whom she should make the most proud - the PC, self-styled champions of women's lib. Inexplicably, these people hitch their star to the likes of Hillary Clinton, who would be unknown if she hadn't married into fame. This happens because the crowd on the left is more about the party line than they are about supporting the likes of Palin. Sarah Palin is self-made, from grass roots origins and real life. She has done so as a mother of five, and has handled well the responsibly and the authority she possesses...and has managed all this while remaining slim and knock-out-ed-ly feminine. For all this, she is not being portrayed in the left-biased media as all that she is, because she does not fit their politically correct caricature. In this, she scores another home run, by showing in glaring light how unfair that media machine is, and how they are not what they claim to be, champions of gender issues. Some are giving her the praise she has earned, but I have witnessed so many of them seeking out the least flattering photos of her (hard to do, I'm sure) for their covers and stories about "lies and baby scandals." Sarah Palin has shown that the media and the women's lib movement are mere partisan organizations with an agenda that must be kept, that they are slavishly and unquestioningly loyal to their party bosses, and who require that a woman "be like them" in order to get recognition from them. As a side note: Cindy McCain is another kindred spirit with Mrs. Palin. Mrs. McCain is a strong woman who doesn't get credit in the PC media because she is the wife of a republican...that she is a private pilot and an international aid worker, and she and her husband John have a big enough heart to take in orphans from other countries and adopt them. These are the demonstrated ideals of female empowerment and compassion that the PC movement says it is all about. Fortunately, Sarah Palin has displayed the self-confidence and individuality to be above any need for their recognition, as a true leader should be. And because of the obviously slanted media coverage both Obama and Palin, 2008 will go down in history as the year that no one could any longer deny that our traditional networks, newspaper, and cable media are more like a party propaganda machine than true news mediums. That is why they lose everyday their share of the ratings to alternative news sources like talk radio and the bloggers. As conservatives have been asserting for years, the response the traditional media have had to Sarah Palin shows too that they, not the republican party, are the truly intolerant in our society. How so? Because of the way they have gone after Palin's 17 year old daughter's pregnancy as evidence that she is a bad mother or a poor sample of family values. Can you imagine the media's reaction if that had been said about Nancy Pelosi? That would have been billed as a mean-spirited right-wing attack. And when has another candidate ever been asked how they can be a good and focused VP while trying to raise a five child family, one child with Down's Syndrome? Outrageous - in part because of the transparently obvious bias of the attacks. Lastly, and perhaps MOST interestingly, the PC media machine has made a misguided attempt to co-opt the traditional values that form the base of Palin's support. They have even tried to quote the Bible in this attempt and have - predictably - botched it. They fail to understand at least one key concept: that the main tenet of the Bible is Grace/forgiveness for sin. When you hear a Christian talk about the erosion of family values or the tolerance the left has for "just any old idea," what we are balking against is the assertions by many in pop culture and politics that it is ACCEPTABLE to have babies out of wedlock, have an abortion (which neither Sarah and her daughter chose to do), or commit any other sin. Sarah Palin has not at all asserted that her daughter was without fault or flaw, as a relativistic, PC approach would have. If you asked her, she would tell you that what her daughter did was wrong. The true Christian view is "love the sinner, but hate the sin" and we embody this daily through such things as prison ministries, drug-addict ministries, etc etc. That is what the left cannot seem to grasp, that we can love people and hate sin at the same time. In part, this is because they take a simplistic, black-and-white view of what they understand to be our Faith...the very kind of intolerance that they get away with saying characterizes The Right. Most of us have for years said this about The Left - that they are the truly intolerant. We said this because (as you already know) there are things you just are not allowed to think or say in our most "free-thinking" institutions...like university classrooms and "free-thinking" Hollywood. God speed, Sarah Palin. I hope and pray to see you in DC come January. Support her on FaceBook here and here
