Repentance
Literally means to "turn away." It goes beyond just "feeling sorry." It means to "do an about face," a "180" away from the sin you have committed.
Some sins are so troublesome for us that they are chronic, and the repentance is a process. For some sins and some people that process might even be lifelong. But it is our genuine effort to turn away from it that God values. If we are genuinely doing this, then His Grace covers the rest, and He will also help with the process if we are fully open to Him.
