The Honeymoon Page One of Two The (Almost) Complete Honeymoon Photo Album Here Click here to see me in my Speedos!
Ya Betta' Belize It, Mon! Neither of us had ever been to Belize before, and it was as advertised, and then some. We stayed at a place called "Barnacle Bill's" - which is made up of only two cabanas - and we had the whole "resort" to ourselves. I italicize resort only because it is so small. But that's JUST how we wanted it.
(Right): Our Cabana Anyway, let me back up before I go into what an amazing trip it was and why. We arrived in Belize City and caught a connecting flight on Maya Island Air. For you aviation buffs, the island-hopping airline is a fleet of Caravans. I have never gotten to fly in one but had always wanted to. We made one stop in Dangriga on our way to Placencia airport, which is at the tip of a long, narrow peninsula that parallels the mainland. No, I didn't get to fly it, but on the way back I got to occupy the copilot seat and set all my instruments. I really got remotivated to get my Instrument and Commercial ratings on those flights.

The second best thing about the trip ;-) was the uninhabited Caribbean island three miles offshore from our beach at the resort (pictured on page two). We paddled out to it twice (a twenty minute trip in good conditions...our second trip had pretty rough waters, though). We went out there and snorkeled around and explored, etc. On the far side of the island from our beach, there is a cove that - if you paddle into it - leads to a narrow entrance into a mangrove canopy. The canopy makes a perfectly manicured tunnel that snakes around for about a quarter mile to the interior of the island, where there are two interior lagoons! It was spectacular! Talk about an adventure that very few people have gotten to experience. We also rented an SUV and drove over the Maya Mountains (a.k.a. the "Misty Mountains") across the country to the Guatemala border town of San Ignacio, some remote jungle locations, and a 130 foot (+) Mayan pyramid. San Iggy is a sprawling city and we didn't stay long there. We just ate at the famous trekker's stop, Eva's, and had lunch / checked email. Some of you had already sent us wedding photos and we first enjoyed them there. Thank you Marty and Tammy, in particular, for that.
